There are several things you should look after:

1. Many unique feature points. It means that Augmented Images would not work well on simple repeating patterns
2. Good color contrast of the image or a pattern
3. In general, I try to look for corners and intersections of lines. Augmented images will not work well with an image with repeated non-intersecting circles

You should always test your images with a tool, but those are best practices I look for in an image.

It is also important to have in mind that an environment has a good light condition.
