How to customise Google Maps to fit your brand
I am working on a side project where a map is one of the core views. Many popular apps use maps and we are getting used to the same map style we have seen million times before. As map view is a core feature of my project, I have decided to find a way to customise it. And after a short Google search, I found Styling Wizard.
Styling Wizard
Styling Wizard is a tool developed by Google and gives various opportunities to customise a map: from changing colours to adjusting density of features.
Styling Wizard gives a simple and interactive way to create a map that would reflect your brand identity, customer needs and user experience and allows you to preview the changes in the real time. At the same time as one style can be used for iOS, Android and Web apps.
Adding map style to Android project
Styling Wizard will generate a JSON styled object with your created style. Add map_style.json to /res/raw/map_style.json
The JSON map style object can be changed easily by editing parameters. Check out style reference documentation for more information. Here is an example of such a feature:
